Costume party

Having twenty little six-year olds racing through my house was not exactly something that I’d wanted to do with my weekend. But, it was my daughter’s birthday and she’d wanted to have a princess party. I had not been able to say no. So, my sister-in-law and my husband and I decided to chaperone a princess costume party and try to keep the house from being destroyed. She’d send out invitations telling her little friends that it was her birthday and that she was having a princess costume party. All of the other girls seemed incredibly thrilled about it and I’m certain that their mothers were happy to have an evening to themselves.

For my daughter, having a costume party was a dream come true. If she had it her way, she’d live in her dress-up clothes. I won’t allow her to wear them to school, but she puts them on once she gets home. She’s even worn them to the mall and restaurants before. I’m not about to complain – she looks adorable as a little princess and it makes her happy. I could tell from glancing at some of the other girls’ costumes, that their mothers had improvised princess costumes for them. They all looked absolutely adorable. It was her best birthday party ever, she had informed me afterwards.

Having a costume party isn’t just something that goes over as a huge hit for children. Adults sometimes love the opportunity to feel young and playful again, doing something that is out of the ordinary for them. Halloween is an excellent time to have a costume party, of course, but don’t limit yourself to just that holiday. It might be incredibly fun to get an invitation to a costume party at any time of the year. Your costume party could have a theme, encouraging everyone to dress from a certain time period or a particular character. Having a costume party doesn’t have to cost very much money or require much work to organize. You don’t even have to send invitations. Call your friends on the phone to invite them or send email invitations.

One of the most fun and eventful costume parties that I’d been to was actually a murder mystery. I received an invitation that assigned me a certain personality and character, and I had to dress for the part. The party ended up being so much fun. Everyone who attended absolutely loved doing something so out of the ordinary. Throw a costume party and see for yourself.

Family Feud Game Show Spells Family Fun

One of the things we do in my house for family nights is watch game shows, and I don’t think there is anything more fun to watch as a family than Family Feud. It is a game that everyone can participate in, and something that everyone learns from and enjoys.

We make it a point to watch the Family Feud game show at least once a week, and it is the one my children are always the most excited to put on. We will let everyone take turns making guesses about what the most popular answers are in every category and round, and what amazes me is how much my kids have learned from watching the game.

Whenever a category comes up that they don’t understand, they will always ask me and my wife to explain it to them and then listen carefully to the answers the contestants give. Not only are they beginning to understand what the questions mean, but they are learning how people think about such questions and how they are most likely to respond.

Another thing about the Family Feud game show is that it is very engaging. I have noticed that my daughter will often times clasp her hands together and lean forward when the show’s host makes one of his dramatic pauses before the answer is revealed. Invariably, if the answer the family gives shows up on the board with the big ringing sound, my daughter will cheer. If it is not on the board, and buzzer sounds, she drops her hands and look sad.

My son, on the other hand, watches the show very intently, and often becomes impatient if one of our family members takes too long to make a guess. Whether we are playing along with the Family Feud game show, or the board game version we bought a few years ago, he will often raise his hand, thrusting it into the air over and over again if he thinks he has a good guess.

My wife and I both get into it as well, and will often spend half an hour or so debating what combination of answers would have allowed families who lost to reach the 200 points they needed to win the prize money.

The Family Feud game show has become a regular part of our weekly routine, and something both of my children look forward to more than any other show. I like how much they have benefited from watching it, both in terms of what they have learned and how they will encourage and congratulate each other when they have played well. It is a show we will continue to watch in our house for a long time.

I love music, and I always have. No matter what

I love music, and I always have. No matter what I am doing, I usually have a CD on in the background. I like all kinds of music. I like rock, pop, old country, and even some classical. Nonetheless, sometimes the music alone is not enough to convey the whole message. That is why I like to download music videos. Music videos are an art form, if you ask me. When they are done right, the music and the images go together to tell a story or create a seamless and beautiful scene. Although MTV doesn’t show them as often as it used to, with all the downloadable music videos on the Internet you can still watch them whenever you want to.

There are plenty of different ways to do music video downloads. One of the easiest ways is to download music videos from YouTube. You Tube is great because it is so convenient and so fast. Basically, you can find anything with one quick and simple search. After that, it will stream the music video directly to your computer. Nothing can be easier. There are, however, some disadvantages to this method of downloading a music video.

The biggest one, of course, is the low resolution. Almost everything shown on You Tube is at an extremely low level of resolution. That is what makes it such a fast way to download music video, but the problem is that a lot of the details that make the music videos beautiful the first place are gone.

That is why a lot of more serious fans download music videos off of some other service. There are several other ways to do it. If you don’t mind paying some money, there are literally dozens of sites that will let you download music videos online. Usually, you pay a subscription fee, but occasionally you pay per download. Either way, all you have to do is enter some financial information and you can download music videos to your hearts content

If you want to, you can always download free music videos from bit torrent. This can take a little more time than any of the other methods I have discussed, but it is worth it. Basically, if you look long enough and are willing to put in the time, you can download anything from bit torrent. You can download games, programs, movies, and of course, music videos. It is a pretty low risk way to download, but you should still take some precautions. After all, you don’t want to get a virus!

Documentary movies and the new millennium

The oughties – the decade that spanned from the year two thousand to the year two thousand and nine – has been called many things. It’s been called “The Deade from Hell.” It’s been called “The Third Awakening.” It’s been called a period of American history best left forgotten.

But I’m calling it something else entirely. I’m calling it the decade of documentary movies.

You see, I’m a bit of a film buff. From the very first movies filmed by Thomas Edison 120 years ago to whatever the great silent films of Griffith, Murnau and the like, to Citizen Kane to Lawrence of Arabia to modern hits like The Departed and No Country for Old Men… if it’s been on celluloid, I’ve probably seen it. And if I’ve seen it, I very, very likely have an opinion on it.

So it goes for this decade as well. The 1950s may have been the decade of film musicals. The 1990s were the decade of indipendent films, while the 1970s were the era of either high-flung science fiction (Tarkovsky’s “Solaris”, Lucas’s “Star Wars”, Scott’s “Alien”) or gritty realism (Coppola’s “The Godfather” both I and II, Scorsese’s “Mean Streets” and “Taxi Driver”, and anything from Cassavettes or Peckinpah come to mind). This past decade, however, saw more quality documentary movies made than any other decade, and any other genre.

The biggest, in terms of budget, fanfare and impact, was Michael Moore’s anti-Bush screed “Fahrenheit 9-11.” Moore, whatever you think of his politics, is an immensely gifted filmmaker who is able to construct his stories in a way that delivers the maximum possible effect for time spent.

Other documentary movies of the decade that deserve the highest of high praise are Stacy Peralta’s surfing doc, “Riding Giants,” and a little-known film by director Seth Gordon about two men vying to set the high score in Donkey Kong called “The King of Kong: A fistful of Quarters.”

While those may have set the artistic standard for documentary movies over the past ten years, it’s worth noting that the financial standard was set by Moore. “Fahrenheit 9-11″ made nearly one hundred twenty million dollars at the box office – completely mind-blowing for a documentary and more than fifty percent higher than its nearest competition. In additon to 2004′s Fahrenheit 9-11, he also made “Sicko” in 2007. This documentary movies about the united states health insurance industry made 24.5 million dollars and is the seventeenth highest grossing documentary of all time in its own right.

The Online Job Search – Hiding Your Cyberspace Skeletons from

The Online Job Search – Hiding Your Cyberspace Skeletons from Your Employers

It used to be that when you send in a resume, the most that any potential employer could do short of sending a private detective after you, was maybe ask your former employers about you. The Internet now though is a vast resource of permanent records of personal and public information that anyone can tap at will. You did read about that single Twitter message that landed someone a great job? If there is anything in your past on the Internet that could possibly make you not look good in an online job search, well, the first thing that hiring managers do these days is to look up the name on a resume to see what easy information Google has. If you were ever in a Greenpeace protest ten years ago, and pictures were published, or if you like to put some politically unpopular views on Twitter, or if you published a paper that wasn’t well received, all of that could potentially show up on a simple Google search. Let’s say that some of this might apply to you, how do you keep these from appearing on Google and upending your job search before it’s even begun?

One way to approach it would be to simply call the websites in question and ask them politely if they could do you favor and take the offending content off. Sometimes, people can respond positively when asked nicely. But people do have a thing for freedom of speech; if the item you’re after happens to be, say, an interview you gave on TV in which you made a lot of mistakes, publishing that video could mean drawing a lot of viewers to that website. How would they give that up just because you asked nicely? But what if it isn’t someone else doing it – what if it is your own social networking website that you put something embarrassing on long before you ever knew it could come home to hurt you? Of course you could adjust your privacy settings the right way; but often, this is not possible if it’s spread on Facebook, to other people’s pages. There is one way to keep your online job search afloat in such a case: go out there and put as much positive stuff about yourself on the Internet, that the negative gets pushed out of the top ten search results on Google.

You could sign up to trade blogs and forums and post good serious comments that show your good and employable side. Now this does sound like a lot of hard work, and it is. If you would like to do a little Internet whitewashing, and you have a little money to burn for it, you could just hire the experts. Companies like ReputationDefender, will do all of this and more for you, for a couple of hundred dollars in fees. Services like this will make it their job to go online and publish so much positive -ounding stuff about you on many websites, any itty-bitty embarrassing detail about you Internet will easily be crowded off the charts. It may not always work, but it is worth a shot. If you are on an online job hunt, all you need to do is first Google yourself up, to see if you have anything unpleasant online. If it can’t be fixed with a little Facebook privacy settings tweaking, well, you have a job on your hands.

Cinco de Mayo Party

Early every May theres a celebration in Mexico that everyone looks forward to all year. It falls on the 5th day of May and when Cinco de Mayo comes its a day for partying. All the small details of a Cinco de Mayo party are important and even if youre not Latin you can have a get together and enjoy all the food and festivities found in Mexico.

Invitations are a must whenever you are planning a party. There are several methods of inviting folks to your Cinco de Mayo party but getting a festive invitation in the mail is a rare treat these days. Most people either call or email their friends and family members when they want to invite them to a party. You can certainly utilize your computer when it comes to making invitations, but take the time to address and mail them as it will help set the tone for your party.

Food is always the focal point of any gathering. Planning a menu for your party should be at the top of your to-do list. When you are having a Cinco de Mayo party everything should be along a Latin theme. That means you get to enjoy delights such as tacos, enchiladas, and tamales. If you are wary about cooking that much food on your own, consider having a potluck type party where you ask each guest to bring one Mexican themed dish. Youll get to enjoy many different foods without having to spend days in the kitchen preparing them.

The look of the venue is also something you want to put a lot of thought into. When you are planning a theme party such as this, you want to make certain the room fits the feel of the event. Finding Cinco de Mayo decorations isnt difficult at all. You simply need some red, green and white streamers. Small, inexpensive Mexican flags are also readily available in late April and early May and these make perfect Cinco de Mayo decorations too. Also a piata fits perfectly into the theme of the day. Its also a great party favor and imagine the fun when your guests take turns trying to break it open while blindfolded.

If you want to carry the theme even farther consider having everyone dress in the colors of the Mexican flag. If everyone who comes to the Cinco de Mayo party wears white, green or red, youll have an ambiance thats all about the special day. It also makes for great photos when everyone participates and follows the dress code.

Having a party like this is sure to put everyone into a Latin frame of mind. Playing some great Latin music will only add to the day and with everything in place, it will certainly be a party no one will soon forget.

Disney Movies Takes Us Back to the Magical Time of

Disney Movies Takes Us Back to the Magical Time of Hand-Drawn Musicals

Most older adults have tender childhood memories of Walt Disney’s breathtaking but touching cartoon movies of the early years – Snow White, Bambi and Fantasia. Anyone who has visited Disneyland and found the opportunity to visit one of the studios where artists lovingly make hand-drawn animation, cel by painful cel, has often wished for the quality and the dedication of those times in todays world of the perfect 3-D animated movie. Disney movies has famously released its statement recently that it sees things this way too – that they wish to make and release at least one traditional hand-drawn animated feature every year.

This year’s hand-drawn, high-profile feature from Disney movies is ‘The Princess and the Frog’. The movie has opened in the top slot on its opening week too, though for a painstaking project in hand-drawn animation, a $25 million opening is seen to be less than encouraging. The Princess and the Frog has a special protagonist: the first Princess in a Disney movie who is an African-American. Of course, as anyone who has watched a little TV or visited a toy store recently must know, Disney has been pushing the glamour of this idea really hard with merchandise, masks and advertising. But some critics are not buying the whole equality thing Disney is trying. The prince she’s trying to kiss back out of the frog, is not black, they say.

Disney movies of the past used to be musical extravaganzas, like ‘The Little Mermaid’. And ‘The Princess and the Frog’ is a return to that rich musical tradition in Disney. Going hand-drawn in an era of ultra-realistic 3-D animation needs to be done with special sensitivity; and Disney seems to believe that the best mind for such a direction should be a pioneer in 3-D animation such as John Lasseter, one of the founders of Pixar. While the movie seems a little slow, taking off, critical opinion has been unequivocally generous. Perhaps Lasseter was just the right choice after all. Disney movies are not charged just by ticket sales, of course; most of their productions take on an after-life of their own in the collective consciousness, and drive a rousing business in Disney merchandise. If this movie succeeds in capturing the imaginations of children far enough to drive the sales of dolls, stuffed toys, action figures and children’s bedroom accessories, it can certainly be said, then, that Disney has succeeded in reviving the genre.

The last hand-drawn venture from Disney movies was ‘Home on the Range’ five years ago; it’s been noticed ever since that the hand-drawn variety does not catch on as quickly as a movie made on modern methods. But once they catch on they just become immortal. ‘The Princess and the Frog’ is about a waitress in New Orleans whose ambition it is to become a successful restaurant entrepreneur herself. She finds herself in a situation where she gets to kiss a prince turned into frog, to help it return to human form. She does so, but finds that her plans have taken a bad turn, and the spell has turned her into a frog too. If Disney can get past accusations that it is running on stereotypes to pander to its audience, it should have a hit on its hands.

When the Internet first started, many were not sure what

When the Internet first started, many were not sure what it was going to be in the future, or even if they would have any interest in what it would become. It is obvious today that the Internet is something that has become vital to many lives, and usually those that are the most depended on it are the ones that work with online jobs. Though not everyone can do this, there are some that are great for those with the right skills. You may be surprised to find what people can do online when they want to earn a living from home.

You can find online jobs that allow you to work at your own pace and that allow you to do things that were not really jobs just ten years ago. There is a market for online freelance writers, and photographers have found a whole new market online. There are other great online jobs that are for those in what might be described as creative types of jobs. If this is something that you do currently, you may find new leads and new ways to make money simply by finding out what is being offered online in your profession.

There are also some online jobs that are not freelance, but are what you would compare to an office job. The only difference is that you can do your job from home. These jobs are not for just anyone though. You really have to be a self starter and you have to put in the same hours you would if you were working in an office. Some online jobs are in offices, but if you get one of those, you have to live near or relocate to where those offices are located. Some though, are strictly work from home, and can even have many of the same benefits as those who go to the office every day. These might include paid sick and vacation time, and medical and/or dental benefits.

Websites that become popular and profitable need people to run them. This is where many great online jobs come from. These usually start out as the project of just a few people, and if successful, will quickly grow way out of their scope. That means they need help, and they will create online jobs for those that have the skills they need. Though many of them are jobs that require advanced computer knowledge, there are some that may surprise you. If that is something that you want to do, look around to see what you can find.

Books are more popular than ever but it is difficult

Books are more popular than ever but it is difficult for a lot of people to find spare time to read. The answer is to pop the earphones on whilst someone reads to you or to listen in the car. The Best selling audio books list from 2005 includes a variety of genres, including thrillers, humorous books, period fiction and self improvement titles.

Some books are narrated by the author but most are read by famous actors or actresses. They may be abridged or recorded in their entirety. It’s possible to download digital audio files onto a PC and then burn them onto a CD or download directly on to a portable audio player or Mp3 or similar system. Most car stereo systems will play the material too.

One of the titles on the 2005 list is The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. The story has gone through different mediums from novel to radio adaptation to television series. This example of best selling audio books has comic actor, Stephen Fry as its narrator. The science fiction story is a cult classic and Fry brings an authoritative tone to the text.

Another popular book captured in audio form is the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. An astonishing proportion of the world’s population has already read the thriller. It’s a real page turner and the exciting world of hidden messages and secret societies is brought to life by the narrator, Paul Michael. An earlier novel by Dan Brown, called Angels and Demons, is also on the best selling audio books list. This is another story concerning religious works of art and it is set in Rome and Vatican City.

Non-Fiction is popular too and Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People has sold solidly since it was published in 1936. It is a bible for a lot of people, especially those hoping to advance themselves in the world of business and politics. An abridged audio version is available on eight CDs, running for over seven hours. The unabridged version can be obtained on eight cassettes. Another title by Carnegie, called How to Stop Worrying and Start Living is available on nine CDs, running for over ten hours.

Such is the popularity of audio books these days; some authors are producing their work onto that format alone. The actor and playwright, Ron McLarty narrates his own work, The Memory of Running and it has entered the chart for best selling audio books.

Download Free Music Legally

Now that practically everyone has a portable MP3 player of some sort, the market for audio CDs has shrunk considerably while the market for individual song downloads has vastly expanded. It’s just so much more convenient to be able to get online, find the song you want, and grab it for $.99. But even this model, which was made popular by the Apple iTunes store, can get expensive after a while — especially when you consider how some folks have literally thousands of songs on their iPods. That’s why it’s nice to be able to download free music when you’re fresh out of cash.

Of course there are some people out there who think those of us who download free music must be doing so illegally. After all, there’s seemingly always a story in the news about the RIAA going after an individual in the courts for copyright infringement. Yes, this kind of piracy is a real concern for the industry, but there are actually several ways to download free music legally.

For example, one way to download free music is to keep an eye out for special promotions from your favorite bands. Quite often well-known artists such as U2, Coldplay, Eminem, Kings of Leon, and others offer complimentary downloads of a single from an upcoming album release. These promotions are usually for a limited time only, but can be a great way to get some tunes from major acts without having to pay a dime. Visiting your favorite artist’s website or signing up for a fan newsletter will keep you updated about future giveaways.

Another great way to download free music is by checking out some lesser-known bands that are trying to catch their first big break. Most of these smaller acts use MySpace or similar social networking websites to promote their songs and get their name out there in an effort to attract the attention of a major label. You can often find some amazing new tunes this way, and might even “discover” that next hot band before they enter the mainstream. It does take some time to sift through all the stuff on MySpace, but there are other sites that offer specific recommendations to guide you.

And finally, you can always go for public domain pieces that are no longer copyrighted. This usually means classical works from composers like Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Vivaldi. Though these minuets and concertos might not be your usual taste, it’s nice to add some variety to your MP3 play list!

As you can see, just because you download free music that doesn’t mean you’ll set off alarm bells, receive threatening letters from your ISP, or face lawsuits from the RIAA. There are a number of ways to do this legally, so go get some new songs right now!
